Jonathan Toews had a goal and two assists as the surging Chicago Blackhawks held off a third-period comeback for a 4-2 victory over the host Minnesota Wild on Monday.
Patrick Sharp, Tomas Kopecky and Marian Hossa also scored for Chicago (34-23-6) as the defending Stanley Cup champion extended its winning streak to five games and moved into a fifth-place tie with Los Angeles in the Western Conference.
Chicago took a 3-0 lead into the third period before Martin Havlat scored 45 seconds into the frame for the Wild, who made it a one-goal game on Brent Burns' backhand goal at 15:48. Hossa’s shorthanded score at 18:08 sealed Chicago’s victory.
Minnesota (33-24-6) is tied with Dallas and Nashville for the final playoff spot in the Western Conference.
Chicago's Corey Crawford made 24 saves to improve to 7-1-1 in his last nine games. Niklas Backstrom stopped 30 shots for the Wild.
