Sabres 3, Rangers 2
Ryan Miller made 29 saves and the visiting Buffalo Sabres held off the New York Rangers 3-2 on Tuesday night at Madison Square Garden.
Tyler Myers, new acquisition Brad Boyes and Jochen Hecht scored goals as Buffalo remained two points behind eighth-place Carolina and closed within three of the Rangers in the Eastern Conference race.
Erik Christensen and Artem Anisimov scored goals for New York, which twice battled back from two-goal deficits but could not push the equalizer past Miller.
Hecht gave the Sabres a 3-1 lead, redirecting a shot by Rangers goaltender Henrik Lundqvist at 4:45 of the third period, but Anisimov answered 80 seconds later.
Myers and Boyes, who was acquired from St. Louis on Monday, staked the Sabres to a 2-0 lead before Christensen cut the deficit in half 45 seconds after Boyes' tally at 13:45 of the second.
