Canucks 2, Blue Jackets 1 (SO)
Raffi Torres scored the decisive goal in the eighth round of the shootout, lifting the league-leading Vancouver Canucks to a 2-1 home victory over the Columbus Blue Jackets on Tuesday.
Mason Raymond tallied in regulation and Roberto Luongo made 30 saves for the Canucks, who improved to 3-2 on their six-game homestand and extended their winning streak against the Blue Jackets to six contests.
After R.J. Umberger was denied by Luongo on Columbus' eighth shootout attempt, Torres burned his former team by beating Steve Mason to the stick side with a snap shot. The goal gave Vancouver consecutive victories for the first time since a six-game winning streak from Jan.24-Feb. 7.
Vancouver twice extended the shootout, with Raymond scoring in the third round and Alex Burrows in the fifth.
The Canucks took a 1-0 lead with 5 1/2 minutes remaining in the first period as Raymond put a backhander past Mason on a short breakaway. The goal was Raymond's third in 27 games.
Acquired from Phoenix at Monday's trade deadline, Scottie Upshall made an immediate impact, beating Luongo from the right faceoff circle at 7:11 of the second period to knot the contest.
Mason stopped 25 shots for the Blue Jackets, who fell to 0-2 on their five-game road trip and lost in regulation for just the second time in eight games (5-2-1).
