Senators 3, Thrashers 1
Colin Greening scored his first NHL goal and Craig Anderson made 42 saves as the visiting Ottawa Senators defeated the reeling Atlanta Thrashers 3-1 on Thursday.
Nick Foligno and Bobby Butler also had goals for the Senators (22-33-9), who have won four of their last six games.
Dustin Byfuglien scored for the Thrashers (26-28-11), who are 1-6-1 in their last eight games and seven points behind the eighth-place New York Rangers in the Eastern Conference.
Anderson is 4-2-0 with a 1.16 goals-against average and .967 save percentage since he was acquired from Colorado on Feb. 18, and improved to 5-1-1 in his career against Atlanta.
Greening’s goal came in his eighth career game. After he corralled a high pass at the side of the net, his shot deflected off Byfuglien’s skate and past Chris Mason at 2:56 of the first period.
Anderson’s best save among his 16 in the first period came when he denied Andrew Ladd on a breakaway. In the second, he stopped 12 shots, including Tim Stapleton’s five-hole bid on a mini-breakaway.
The Senators killed Atlanta’s only power-play opportunity and haven’t allowed a power-play goal in their last six games (20 opportunities).
