Kings 1, Coyotes 0

Jarret Stoll snapped a scoreless tie with 7:47 remaining in the third period and Jonathan Bernier made 25 saves as the Los Angeles Kings posted a 1-0 home victory over the struggling Phoenix Coyotes on Thursday.

All-Star Anze Kopitar and Ryan Smyth each had an assist for the Kings, who improved to 3-1 on their six-game homestand and 12-2-3 in their last 17 contests overall.

Dustin Penner made his debut for Los Angeles after being acquired from Edmonton at Monday's trade deadline. Penner played just under 17 minutes but did not record a point or shot on goal.

With Phoenix defenseman Rostislav Klesla in the penalty box for high-sticking, Stoll beat Ilya Bryzalov with a one-timer from the blue line for his 18th goal of the season and second in three games.

That was enough support for Bernier, who stopped seven shots in each of the first two periods and 11 in the third for his third career shutout and second this season.

Bryzgalov made 17 saves for the Coyotes, who have lost five straight contests following an eight-game winning streak. Phoenix also has dropped four straight on the road.
