Flames 4, Blue Jackets 3
Rene Bourque and Curtis Glencross scored 81 seconds apart midway through the second period as the Calgary Flames skated to a 4-3 home triumph over the Columbus Blue Jackets on Friday.
Captain Jarome Iginla netted his fourth goal in three contests and Olli Jokinen also tallied as Calgary (34-24-9) recorded its 14th win in 20 games to move into sole possession of fifth place in the ultra-competitive Western Conference standings.
Making his 19th consecutive start, Miikka Kiprusoff turned aside 37 shots to improve to 15-5-2 in his career against the Blue Jackets.
With Antoine Vermette serving a four-minute high-sticking penalty, Bourque snapped a 2-2 tie at 8:48 of the second period after cleaning up a rebound for his third goal in two games.
Glencross doubled the advantage shortly thereafter to complete his three-point night, much to the chagrin of Vermette.
Vermette collected a goal and an assist and defensemen Jan Hejda and Craig Rivet also tallied for Columbus (31-26-7), which has lost four in a row on its current five-game road trip.
Steve Mason finished with 24 saves en route to suffering his third straight setback.
