Blackhawks 5, Maple Leafs 3
Marian Hossa recorded a goal and an assist and captain Jonathan Toews added his 27th tally of the season as the Chicago Blackhawks extended their winning streak to eight games with a 5-3 victory over the Toronto Maple Leafs on Saturday.
Michael Frolik, Viktor Stalberg and Bryan Bickell also scored and Corey Crawford made 29 saves for the Blackhawks, who maintained their grip on the No. 4 seed in the Western Conference.
Hossa opened the scoring just 70 seconds into the contest after he intercepted a pass in the Maple Leafs’ zone and wristed a shot from the high slot past rookie James Reimer for his 18th goal of the season.
The Blackhawks added two more in the first period, with Frolik finishing a 2-on-1 break with his 10th of the season and Toews taking a nice feed from Patrick Kane and pushing it through from just in front of the crease.
Toronto, which is trying to make a move into playoff position in the East, finally got on the board in the second when Joffrey Lupul scored an unassisted goal.
Stalberg and Bickell scored six minutes apart later in the second period to essentially seal the win.
