Senators 2, Devils 1
Erik Condra scored his second goal of the game with just over two minutes remaining to lift the Ottawa Senators to a 2-1 victory over the host New Jersey Devils on Tuesday.
Craig Anderson made 31 saves and Jason Spezza had an assist for the Senators (23-34-9), who moved one point ahead of Edmonton in the race to avoid the worst record in the NHL.
The Devils lost in regulation for just the third time in the last 25 games and remained eight points behind Buffalo for the eighth and final playoff spot in the Eastern Conference.
Condra put Ottawa ahead in the second period, taking a feed from Ryan Shannon and wristing a shot from the slot between Martin Brodeur’s pads.
New Jersey got back that goal early in the third period when Patrik Elias scored but had their defense let them down with 2:13 to play. Spezza found Condra right in from of the crease, and the right wing wristed his fourth tally past the left leg of Brodeur.
