Capitals 2, Hurricanes 1
All-Star Alex Ovechkin and Matt Hendricks scored third-period goals to erase a deficit and lead the Washington Capitals to their seventh consecutive victory Friday, a 2-1 triumph over the visiting Carolina Hurricanes.
Rookie Braden Holtby made a career-high 40 saves for the Southeast Division-leading Capitals, who have won four in a row at home and nine of 10 overall.
After 39 scoreless minutes, Carolina got on the board with 36 seconds remaining in the second period. Tuomo Ruutu received a pass in the slot and moved to the left faceoff circle before beating Holtby high to the stick side.
Washington answered 47 seconds into the third as Ovechkin extended his point streak to seven games with his 28th goal of the season. Hendricks put the Capitals ahead at 7:24 when he put a wrist shot past All-Star Cam Ward.
Ward stopped 24 shots for the Hurricanes, who have lost four straight road games and four of six overall.
