Red Wings 2, Oilers 1 (OT)
Pavel Datsyuk buried the game-winner at the 4:17 mark of overtime after Nicklas Lidstrom had tied it with 25 seconds left in regulation, lifting the Detroit Red Wings to a 2-1 victory over the visiting Edmonton Oilers on Friday.
Datsyuk was also credited with an assist and Jimmy Howard made 26 saves for the Red Wings, who secured their 13th straight 40-win season and snapped a four-game slide.
Lidstrom got credit for the tying goal when he fired a slap shot from above the left face-off circle that deflected off the skate of an Edmonton defender and just snuck between Devan Dubnyk’s skate and the post.
Datsyuk’s tally did not need any help, as the All-Star wound up and slapped one from the high slot that beat Dubnyk on the high stick side.
Ryan Jones scored the lone goal for the Oilers, trickling a shot from the left boards underneath Howard’s pad and across the line at the 6:40 mark of the first for his 15th tally.
Dubynk came within 25 seconds of his second career shutout and finished with 41 saves for Edmonton.
