Devils 3, Thrashers 2 (OT)
Travis Zajac scored a power-play goal 4:17 into overtime to lift the New Jersey Devils to a 3-2 road triumph over the Atlanta Thrashers on Friday.
Former Thrasher Ilya Kovalchuk netted his team-leading 25th goal of the season and Zajac also scored a 5-on-3 power-play goal for New Jersey (31-32-4), which has won 21 of its last 27 contests. The Devils are now eight points out of eighth place in the Eastern Conference standings.
Patrik Elias notched a pair of assists and Martin Brodeur turned aside 24 shots to improve to 13-2-1 in his last 16 starts.
With Evander Kane in the penalty box following a tripping penalty, Zajac ended the contest by tipping a feed on the doorstep by Elias. The tally was his 12th of the season and second of the night.
Defenseman Dustin Byfuglien netted a power-play goal, Blake Wheeler also tallied and Bryan Little notched a pair of assists for Atlanta (28-28-12).
Ondrej Pavelec finished with 27 saves for the Thrashers.
