Capitals 4, Blackhawks 3 (OT)
Mike Knuble's goal 3:51 into overtime led the Washington Capitals to their eighth consecutive victory Sunday afternoon, a 4-3 triumph over the visiting Chicago Blackhawks.
Knuble swept the puck past Chicago netminder Corey Crawford from in close for his 16th goal of the campaign as the Caps moved to within a point of idle Philadelphia for top spot in the Eastern Conference.
Boyd Gordon and Brooks Laich added goals for the Caps. Nick Leddy, Tomas Kopecky and Jonathan Toews, with the tying goal in the final minute of regulation, responded for Chicago, which fell to 10-2-4 in its last 16 outings.
After Leddy and Gordon traded goals early in the first, Arnott gave the Capitals a 2-1 lead on a power-play late in the period, blasting a shot from the point that eluded Crawford.
Kopecky evened things early in the second frame, flicking a shot from a horrible angle that caromed off Holtby's back and bounced just inside the right post.
Laich responded with his 15th of the campaign on a nice feed from Eric Fehr at 6:23 of the third to put the Capitals back in front, but Toews forced overtime on a power-play with 39 seconds remaining and the Chicago net empty for an extra attacker.
