Panthers 4, Maple Leafs 0

Scott Clemmensen stopped 24 shots for his sixth career shutout as the Florida Panthers dealt Toronto a serious blow to its playoff hopes with a 4-0 win over the Maple Leafs on Thursday.

Clemmensen held a desperate Toronto squad at bay while starting in place of Tomas Vokoun, who has won just two of his last 10 outings.

Sergei Samsonov and Stephen Weiss had a goal and an assist apiece to lead the Panthers, who are playoff longshots at this point, nine points out of eighth spot in the Eastern Conference with 11 games remaining.

Keaton Ellerby and Mike Santorelli had the other goals for the Panthers, with Ellerby's goal coming into an empty net with 3:24 remaining to close out the scoring.

Jean-Sebastien Giguere made 22 saves in defeat as the Leafs failed to gain any ground on eighth-place Buffalo in the East. Toronto remains four points back, and the Sabres have two games in hand.
