Flames 5, Avalanche 2
Jarome Iginla pushed his goal total to 32 with a pair of tallies and Rene Bourque added a goal and an assist as the Calgary Flames burned the Colorado Avalanche, 5-2, on Thursday.
Mark Giordano and Ales Kotalik each chipped in a goal and Miikka Kiprusoff made 27 saves for the Flames (37-27-9), who jumped back into the No. 8 spot in the Western Conference, one point up on Nashville.
The Avalanche continued their freefall, dropping their 10th straight to fall to 1-17-1 in their last 19 games.
Calgary took the early lead when Iginla took advantage of a 5-on-3 power play to slap in his 31st tally. Giordano made it 2-0 with a power-play goal just 24 seconds later, beating Peter Budaj between the pads with a slap shot from the slot.
The Avalanche cut it in half with Mark Oliver’s first goal at the 7:35 mark of the first but Bourque’s 24th came with 18 seconds left in the opening period and pushed it back to a two-goal edge.
Kotalik and Iginla scored early in the third to put it away.
