Coyotes 3, Oilers 1

Ray Whitney and Radim Vrbata each recorded a goal and an assist as the Phoenix Coyotes extended their winning streak to four games Thursday with a 3-1 road victory over the Edmonton Oilers.

Lee Stempniak also scored and Ilya Bryzgalov made 35 saves for the Coyotes, who improved to 3-0 on their four-game road trip and 5-0-1 in their last six overall.

Stempniak opened the scoring with 47 seconds remaining in the first period, beating Nikolai Khabibulin for his 16th goal of the season. Stempniak has scored in two straight contests following a 21-game drought.

Whitney gave Phoenix a 2-0 lead at 11:32 of the second with his 14th tally. Bryzgalov stopped Andrew Cogliano's penalty shot at 3:46 of the third, but rookie Magnus Paajarvi got Edmonton on the board during a power play less than three minutes later with his first goal in 12 games.

Vrbata created some breathing room with eight minutes remaining, beating Khabibulin from the left faceoff circle during a man advantage for his second tally in 15 contests.
