Penguins 5, Red Wings 4 (SO)

Pascal Dupuis recorded two goals and an assist while James Neal scored the only goal of the shootout as the Pittsburgh Penguins squandered a four-goal lead before emerging with a 5-4 road victory over the Detroit Red Wings on Monday.

Chris Kunitz had a goal and an assist, Tyler Kennedy also scored and Brent Johnson made 37 saves for the Penguins, who have won five of their last seven games overall and are 4-0-2 in their last six on the road.

Pittsburgh played without Matt Cooke, who was suspended for the final 10 regular-season games as well as the first round of the playoffs for elbowing Ryan McDonagh of the New York Rangers in the head Sunday.

Neither team converted in the first two rounds of the shootout and Johnson denied Dan Cleary on Detroit's third attempt. Neal beat Joey MacDonald, who made 10 saves in relief of Jimmy Howard, with a quick shot on Pittsburgh's next chance to seal the win.

Dupuis opened the scoring at 15:14 of the first period with only his second goal in 23 games and Kunitz made it 2-0 with 43 seconds remaining in the session.

Dupuis completed his second two-goal performance of the season with a shorthanded score midway through the second. Kennedy scored less than three minutes later to give Pittsburgh a 4-0 bulge and chase Howard, who made 11 saves.

Henrik Zetterberg began Detroit's comeback attempt with 2:19 left in the period and Valtteri Filppula tallied 1:57 into the third to halve the deficit. Cleary converted a power-play opportunity at 8:06 and Mike Modano made it 4-4 midway through the period with a power-play goal.
