Kings 2, Flames 1 (SO)
Anze Kopitar scored the decisive goal in the third round of the shootout to lift the Los Angeles Kings to a 2-1 victory over the visiting Calgary Flames on Monday.
Jarret Stoll tallied in regulation and Jonathan Quick made 27 saves for the Kings (41-26-6), who snapped a four-game home losing streak and took sole possession of fifth in the Western Conference.
Olli Jokinen scored and Miikka Kiprusoff stopped 26 shots for Calgary (37-27-11), which has lost five of its last six games and fell to 0-0-2 on its four-game road trip.
The Flames moved into a tie with Anaheim and Dallas for eighth in the West, but have played three more games than the Ducks and Stars.
Alex Tanguay gave the Flames the edge in the first round of the shootout, but Stoll converted his chance in the next round to even things. Kopitar slid a backhander between Kiprusoff's pads after Calgary's Rene Bourque hit the right post, and Curtis Glencross shot wide on the Flames' last opportunity.
After 54 minutes of scoreless hockey, Los Angeles got on the board with 5:52 remaining on Stoll's 19th goal of the season. Kiprusoff stopped Brad Richardson's shot from the top of the left faceoff circle, but Stoll grabbed the rebound and fired it past the netminder for his first score in nine games.
Los Angeles' lead lasted only 65 seconds as Jokinen received a long pass from defenseman Steve Staios, got around Kings blue-liner Jack Johnson and slid a backhander between Quick's pads.
