Avalanche 5, Blue Jackets 4 (SO)

Daniel Winnik tied the game with four seconds left in the third period and Milan Hejduk celebrated his 900th career game by scoring the lone goal in the shootout as the Colorado Avalanche halted their eight-game home losing streak with a 5-4 triumph over the Columbus Blue Jackets on Tuesday.

All-Star Matt Duchene scored twice, Ryan O'Reilly also tallied and Brian Elliott made 29 saves for the Avalanche, who won their second straight game after going 1-18-2 in their previous 21.

R.J. Umberger had two goals, Derek MacKenzie recorded a goal and an assist and captain Rick Nash also scored for Columbus, which has lost 11 of its last 13 games (2-6-5).

Winnik, who also had an assist, forged a 4-4 tie in the waning seconds of the third period, burying a loose puck in the low slot during a power play.

Hejduk beat Steve Mason high to the glove side to begin the shootout, and Elliott denied Umberger and Nash before Derick Brassard's shot in the third round rang off the left post.

After Nash and O'Reilly traded goals in the first six minutes, Columbus took a 3-1 lead on shorthanded tallies by MacKenzie midway through the second and Umberger seven minutes into the third.

Duchene got Colorado even, beating Mason twice in a 6:52 span for his fifth two-goal performance of the season. Umberger scored his second of the night with 3:05 to play, giving Columbus a 4-3 edge.
