Coyotes 2, Blues 1
Lauri Korpikoski recorded a goal and an assist and Ilya Bryzgalov made 29 saves as the Phoenix Coyotes moved within a point of third place in the Western Conference with a 2-1 victory over the St. Louis Blues on Tuesday.
Ray Whitney scored his 18th goal and Radim Vrbata added a pair of assists for the Coyotes (40-24-11), who moved right behind the Pacific Division-leading San Jose Sharks (42-23-8) for the No. 3 spot.
The Blues took the early lead when Kevin Shattenkirk snapped in his ninth goal from just in front of the crease at the 8:52 mark of the first period.
Phoenix finally got on the board at the 8:41 mark of the second period when Korpikoski could not get enough on his shot, floating the puck to where Whitney backhanded it past Jaroslav Halak for his 15th tally.
Korpikoski made it 2-1 just over eight minutes later when his wrister from above the right face-off circle deflected off a St. Louis defender just enough to redirect the puck past Halak’s glove.
Halak made 21 saves.
