Penguins 2, Flyers 1 (SO)
Chris Kunitz scored the decisive goal in the fourth round of the shootout as the Pittsburgh Penguins skated to a 2-1 road triumph over the Philadelphia Flyers on Thursday in a battle of Keystone State rivals.
Tyler Kennedy collected a power-play goal for his third tally in four contests and Kunitz added an assist for Pittsburgh (43-23-8), which has won six of its last eight games. The Penguins are now just four points behind the Atlantic Division-leading Flyers (44-19-10).
Marc-Andre Fleury denied three of four attempts in the shootout and finished with 19 saves to improve to 20-9-0 in his career against the Flyers.
Captain Mike Richards netted his 21st goal of the season and second in three games for Philadelphia, which fell to 4-0-4 in its last eight contests.
Rookie Sergei Bobrovsky bounced back from a brutal game against the Washington Capitals on Tuesday to turn aside 30 shots in this one.
Richards opened the scoring with 4:42 remaining in the first period. James van Riemsdyk's centering feed deflected off a skate and then caromed in off Richards' stick.
Kennedy leveled the contest just 61 seconds into the second period. The 24-year-old Ontario native accepted a feed from Kunitz and wired a shot from the right faceoff circle past Bobrovsky for his 18th goal of the season and third in four contests.
