Senators 2, Capitals 0
Craig Anderson made 31 saves for his second shutout of the season as the Ottawa Senators knocked off the visiting Washington Capitals 2-0 Friday night.
As has been the case in most of Ottawa's recent victories, Anderson was the difference in this one. The veteran netminder stopped a handful of quality Capitals scoring chances to improve to 8-4 with a 1.84 goals-against average since joining the Senators in a trade with Colorado last month.
A pair of rookies provided all the offense Ottawa (28-37-9) would need against Washington (43-21-10). Colin Greening scored his fourth goal of the season late in the second period and Erik Condra added his fifth of the campaign early in the third.
Milan Michalek earned an assist on the Condra goal in his first action since suffering a lower-body injury against the Philadelphia Flyers on Feb. 26.
Semyon Varlamov stopped 21 shots in defeat for the Capitals, who fell into a tie with Pittsburgh for second place in the East, two points back of the conference-leading Flyers.
