Red Wings 4, Maple Leafs 2

Jiri Hudler scored the game-winner early in the third period as the Detroit Red Wings halted a three-game losing streak Saturday with a 4-2 win over the visiting Toronto Maple Leafs.

Hudler's 10th goal of the season came only 38 seconds after Toronto's Joffrey Lupul had evened the score.

Henrik Zetterberg, Tomas Holmstrom and Todd Bertuzzi also scored for Detroit (43-22-9) while Joey MacDonald stopped all seven shots he faced to earn the win in relief of Jimmy Howard, who left with a shoulder injury when Lupul fell on top of him after scoring the tying goal.

Nazem Kadri had the other goal for the Leafs (34-31-10), who may have seen their last shot at a playoff shot fade away. Combined with Buffalo's victory over New Jersey, Toronto trails the Sabres by seven points for the eighth spot in the Eastern Conference with six games left.

Detroit dominated the special-teams battle, scoring on its only two power-play opportunities while killing off all four Toronto man advantages. The Wings entered the game with the NHL's fourth-best power play.

James Reimer turned aside 25 shots for the Leafs, who hadn't played in Detroit since 2008.
