Captain Jarome Iginla had two power-play goals and Alex Tanguay scored in the shootout as the Calgary Flames erased a three-goal deficit in the third period to defeat the host Edmonton Oilers 5-4 on Saturday.
Defenseman Steve Staios, who was acquired at the trade deadline from Edmonton in the first deal ever made between the two teams, tied it with 1:55 left after Curtis Glencross cut the deficit to 4-3 with 7:51 remaining.
The Flames (38-28-11) moved to within one point of eighth-place Chicago in the Western Conference. Calgary has five games remaining; Chicago has eight.
Mark Giordano had three assists and Miikka Kiprusoff made 17 saves, plus three in the shootout for the Flames. Kiprusoff has won nine of his last 10 against Edmonton.
Teemu Hartikainen scored his first NHL goal and Colin Fraser tallied for the first time in 51 games for the Oilers (23-41-11), who lost their ninth straight.
Ryan Jones and Magnus Paajarvi also scored and Devan Dubnyk made 27 saves for Edmonton.
Iginla has 36 goals this season, and 11 and his last 13 games. He has 994 career points.
