Pierre-Marc Bouchard and Mikko Koivu scored in the first two rounds of the shootout as the visiting Minnesota Wild snapped an eight-game losing streak with a 3-2 victory over the St. Louis Blues on Tuesday.
Bouchard and Eric Nystrom each scored in regulation and Jose Theodore made 27 saves for the Wild.
After failing to score despite having a power play that lasted more than half of overtime, Minnesota took the first turn in the shootout and Bouchard made it count, punching it between Jaroslav Halak's pads.
After Theodore stopped Chris Stewart, Koivu put a wrister past Halak's left skate. Andy McDonald put a wrister past Theodore, who sealed the win with a save on Matt D'Agostini.
The teams traded goals in the first period, with Nystrom giving the Wild the early advantage just 1:43 into the contest. The Blues evened it with just under nine minutes left in the period, converting a power play opportunity on Stewart’s 25th tally.
St. Louis took a brief lead early in the third when Stewart struck again but gave away the advantage when Bouchard worked all the way from one side of the blue line to another before cutting to the goal and beating Halak over the shoulder for an unassisted tally, his 10th.
Halak made 26 saves.
