Flames 2, Avalanche 1

Alex Tanguay recorded a goal and an assist while Miikka Kiprusoff made 34 saves as the Calgary Flames extended their road winning streak to three games Sunday with a 2-1 triumph over the Colorado Avalanche.

Olli Jokinen also scored and captain Jarome Iginla stretched his point streak to five contests with an assist for the Flames (40-29-11), who posted their fifth straight victory over Colorado to climb within one point of Chicago (42-28-8) for the eighth and final playoff spot in the Western Conference.

The Blackhawks, however, have four games remaining while Calgary has two contests left on its schedule.

After defenseman Jay Bouwmeester dumped the puck into the offensive zone midway through the second period, Tanguay chased it down behind the net. The puck found its way to the doorstep, and Jokinen fired it past Peter Budaj at 10:23 for a 1-0 lead.

Tanguay doubled the advantage at 8:13 of the third, converting a cross-crease pass from Iginla for his 21st goal of the season.

Milan Hejduk spoiled Kiprusoff's shutout bid with five minutes remaining and Budaj also stopped 34 shots for the Avalanche, who have lost 11 of their last 12 home games and five of six overall.
