Penguins 4, Islanders 3 (SO)

Chris Kunitz scored the lone goal of the shootout in the third round as the Pittsburgh Penguins spoiled the New York Islanders' home finale Friday with a 4-3 victory.

Michael Rupp recorded a goal and an assist, defenseman Zbynek Michalek and Mark Letestu also tallied and All-Star Marc-Andre Fleury made 35 saves for the Penguins, who have won seven of nine overall and six of seven on the road.

Blake Comeau scored twice, rookie defenseman Travis Hamonic notched a goal and an assist and Al Montoya stopped 35 shots for New York, which lost four of its final five home games and has dropped six of seven overall.

Kunitz helped Pittsburgh secure home ice in the first round of the playoffs by firing the puck between Montoya's pads. The Penguins (48-25-8), who conclude the regular season at Atlanta on Sunday, are even with Philadelphia (46-23-12) for first place in the Atlantic but do not own the tiebreaker for the division title.

Rupp got Pittsburgh on the board at 8:57 of the first period and Michalek' power-play goal with 8:49 remaining in the second doubled the lead. Comeau buried a rebound just over four minutes later and forged a tie with a man-advantage tally at 8:14 of the third.

It was Comeau's seventh career two-goal performance and third this season.

The Penguins took a 3-2 lead with 7:39 to play as Rupp carried the puck down the right side before making a backhand pass to Letestu, who beat Montoya from the top of the crease. But Hamonic blasted a one-timer past Fleury from the left point with 35 seconds left to knot the contest.
