Canadiens 2, Bruins 1

Captain Brian Gionta snapped a tie during a two-man advantage at 5:48 of the second period and the sixth-seeded Montreal Canadiens held on to post a 2-1 home victory over the third-seeded Boston Bruins in Game 6 of their Eastern Conference quarterfinal series on Tuesday.

Mike Cammalleri also scored on a 5-on-3 power play and added an assist while Carey Price made 31 saves for the Canadiens, who have forced a seventh game with a Game 6 win at home three times in the last two postseasons.

Defenseman Dennis Seidenberg tallied and Vezina Trophy finalist Tim Thomas stopped 25 shots for the Bruins, who will host Game 7 on Wednesday. The Bruins went 0-for-4 on the power play and have not scored on 19 attempts in the series.

Boston's Milan Lucic was issued a major for boarding Canadiens defenseman Jaroslav Spacek at 4:37 of the second period and Patrice Bergeron was called for delay of game 16 seconds later when his clearing attempt went over the glass.

It took Montreal less than a minute to convert the 5-on-3 opportunity as Gionta jammed the puck into the net at the left post at 5:48 for his third goal of the series.

Just four seconds after Boston was whistled for too many men at 8:54 of the first period, Seidenberg received a slashing penalty, giving Montreal a lengthy two-man advantage. Cammalleri cashed in at 10:07, one-timing defenseman P.K. Subban's cross-slot feed past Thomas for his third of the playoffs.

Seidenberg atoned for his miscue 48 seconds into the second session as he grabbed the puck behind the net and walked out near the right post before beating Price.
