Lightning 5, Penguins 1
Defenseman Eric Brewer recorded a goal and two assists while Martin St. Louis added a tally and an assist as the Tampa Bay Lightning evened their Eastern Conference quarterfinal series with the fourth-seeded Pittsburgh Penguins at one game apiece with a 5-1 road victory Friday.
Captain Vincent Lecavalier, Nate Thompson and blue-liner Mattias Ohlund also scored, Simon Gagne collected three assists and Dwayne Roloson made 35 saves for the Lightning, who host Game 3 on Monday.
Craig Adams tallied and Marc-Andre Fleury stopped 16 shots for Pittsburgh, which went 0-for-7 on the power play.
After being blanked in the series opener on Wednesday, Tampa Bay played with a purpose right from the opening faceoff in this one and took a 1-0 lead at 2:02 when Brewer beat Fleury from the right faceoff circle during a 2-on-1 rush.
Lecavalier converted a power-play chance at 6:53 and Thompson made it 3-0 with 2:58 remaining, burying a rebound from the slot for his first career playoff goal.
Adams got the Penguins on the board midway through the second, but St. Louis scored with the man advantage in the waning seconds to restore the Lightning's three-goal bulge. Ohlund sealed the win with a shorthanded empty-netter late in the third.
