Penguins 3, Lightning 2

Tyler Kennedy snapped a tie early in the third period and the Pittsburgh Penguins went on to post a 3-2 road victory over the Tampa Bay Lightning on Monday and take a 2-1 lead in their Eastern Conference quarterfinal series.

Just 31 seconds after Tampa Bay's Martin St. Louis scored his second power-play goal of the game to forge a 2-2 tie, Kennedy grabbed the rebound of defenseman Brooks Orpik's blast from the blue line and fired it past Dwayne Roloson from the slot at 2:43 of the third to give the Penguins the edge.

Max Talbot and Arron Asham also scored, defenseman Kris Letang notched two assists and Marc-Andre Fleury made 25 saves for the Penguins, who have won six of their last eight road playoff games.

Roloson turned aside 27 shots for Tampa Bay, which hosts Game 4 on Wednesday.

Pittsburgh scored goals 45 seconds apart early in the first period to jump ahead.

With a penalty about to be called on Tampa Bay's Steve Downie after he left his feet to check Pittsburgh defenseman Ben Lovejoy, Talbot beat Roloson from the top of the right faceoff circle at 5:46 for his 14th career playoff goal.

Shortly thereafter, Michael Rupp made a cross-crease pass to Asham, who put the puck past Roloson for his second tally of the series. The Lightning halved the deficit with 4:41 remaining in the period as St. Louis buried a rebound on the doorstep during a man advantage.
