Kings 4, Sharks 0

Defenseman Drew Doughty tied a franchise record with his four-point night and Jonathan Quick turned aside all 34 shots he faced as the Los Angeles Kings evened their Western Conference quarterfinal series at one game apiece on Saturday with a 4-0 road triumph over the San Jose Sharks.

Doughty collected two goals and two assists and fellow blue-liner Jack Johnson and rookie Kyle Clifford also tallied for Los Angeles, which played without Jarret Stoll. The center was serving a one-game suspension after his brutal hit along the boards on San Jose defenseman Ian White during Thursday's loss in Game 1.

Johnson and Doughty netted power-play goals exactly 3 1/2 minutes apart in the first period to give the Kings a quick 2-0 advantage. Johnson wired a shot from the left faceoff circle through a screen with 7:47 remaining, and Doughty doubled the advantage after his blast from high slot beat Antti Niemi.

After Doughty's rocket from the blue line gave the Kings a 3-0 lead, the defenseman set up Clifford for his first career playoff goal 4:54 into the third period. With his four-point night, Doughty matched his effort last year against the Vancouver Canucks and also tied Paul Coffey (1992 vs. Edmonton) for points by a defenseman in a playoff game.

The offense onslaught was more than enough for Quick, who stopped 15 shots in the first period, eight in the second and 11 in the third to preserve his first career playoff shutout.

Niemi finished with 19 saves for Pacific Division champion San Jose, which will look to rebound in Game 3 at the Staples Center on Tuesday.
