Mark Recchi collected a pair of goals as the Boston Bruins scored four times in both the second and third periods to cruise to an 8-1 home triumph over the Vancouver Canucks in Game 3 of the Stanley Cup Finals on Monday.
Michael Ryder had a goal and two assists and defenseman Andrew Ference, Brad Marchand, David Krejci, Daniel Paille and Chris Kelly also scored for Boston, which trails 2-1 in the best-of-seven series.
Game 4 is Wednesday at TD Garden, where the host Bruins have posted an impressive 8-3 record during the playoffs.
Vezina Trophy finalist Tim Thomas turned aside 40 shots and provided an exclamation point on the performance by leveling Vancouver captain Henrik Sedin nearly seven minutes into the third period.
Jannik Hansen scored with 6:07 remaining in the third period and fellow Vezina Trophy finalist Roberto Luongo finished with 30 saves for the Presidents' Trophy-winning Canucks.
Boston right wing Nathan Horton left the ice on a stretcher just 5:07 into the first period after he was on the receiving end of a brutal hit from Aaron Rome.
The Vancouver defenseman left his feet and leveled Horton just outside the blue line. Rome was assessed a five-minute major and a game misconduct.
Ference opened the scoring just 11 seconds into the second period. After Krejci's attempt sailed wide of the net, the defenseman seized the puck at the point and wired a shot which sailed past a screened Luongo for his third goal of this postseason and eighth career.
Recchi was credited with his first goal of the night just 4:11 later, although Vancouver's Ryan Kesler was actually the one whose stick deflected the puck into the net.
Recchi patiently waited and attempted a centering feed to Rich Peverley, but the puck caromed off Kesler's stick and between the pads of Luongo to give Boston a 2-0 advantage.
Just over seven minutes later, Marchand collected his own pass off the boards before skating in and beating Luongo for his seventh goal of the postseason.
Krejci cleaned up a rebound for his team-leading 11th goal of the playoffs just over four minutes later to whip TD Garden into a frenzy.
After the teams traded goals, Recchi added his second of the night and third in his last two games to give Boston a 6-1 lead. Kelly and Ryder scored on consecutive shots to cap the scoring.
