Bruins 4, Canucks 0

Rich Peverley scored twice and Vezina Trophy finalist Tim Thomas turned aside all 38 shots he faced as the Boston Bruins leveled the Stanley Cup Finals at two games apiece with a 4-0 home triumph over the Vancouver Canucks on Wednesday.

Michael Ryder and Brad Marchand scored 2:18 apart in the second period and David Krejci notched a pair of assists for Boston, which claimed both contests at TD Garden from Presidents' Trophy-winning Vancouver.

The series shifts back to British Columbia when the teams reconvene for Game 5 on Friday.

With his 31st postseason victory, Boston's Claude Julien pulled into a tie with Don Cherry for first place in franchise history.

Peverley opened the scoring with 8:01 remaining in the first period. Captain Zdeno Chara's stretch pass found Krejci, who alertly chipped the puck ahead to a streaking Peverley. The 28-year-old Ontario native wristed a shot between the pads of Vezina Trophy finalist Roberto Luongo to give Boston a 1-0 lead.

That was all the offense needed for Thomas, who recorded his third postseason shutout in 2011 and fourth career. The All-Star netminder blanked the Tampa Bay Lightning in Games 3 and 7 of the Eastern Conference final, stopping 31 and 24 shots respectively. Thomas has permitted five goals in as many games.

Ryder doubled the advantage 11:11 into the second period. He patiently settled a rolling puck before wiring a wrist shot from the top of the left faceoff circle which deflected off Vancouver defenseman Sami Salo's stick and past Luongo for his seventh of the playoffs.

Marchand gave Boston a 3-0 lead just 2:18 later after a Canucks turnover resulted in a loose puck on the doorstep. The Nova Scotia native backhanded a shot over the glove of Luongo for his eighth of the postseason.

Peverley added his second of the night and fourth of the playoffs after Milan Lucic's centering feed caromed off the shaft of Luongo's stick. The puck then careened into Peverley's thigh before finding its way into the net at 3:39 of the third period.

The goal marked the end of the evening for Luongo, who finished with 16 saves. Massachusetts native Cory Schneider relieved Luongo and stopped nine shots.
