Ducks 2, Rangers 1 (SO)
Bobby Ryan
tallied in the fourth round of the shootout as the Anaheim Ducks edged the New York Rangers, 2-1, in a shootout on Saturday afternoon in Stockholm, Sweden.
Rangers netminder Henrik Lundqvist had two chances to earn a win in front of his home country and ended up with extra-time losses in each. He made 27 saves in regulation and overtime Saturday but couldn't curtail Ryan, who beat Lundqvist between the pads with a fanned-on wrist shot from the high slot.
Andrew Cogliano scored the lone goal in regulation for the Ducks, who bounced
back after a loss in Helsinki on Friday.
Lundqvist, who is the goaltender for the Swedish national team and a legend in the country, got little help in an overtime loss on Friday and fell behind early on Saturday. Cogliano ripped a slap shot from the slot, beating Lunqvist between the pads at the 9:26 mark of the first period.
The Rangers managed 15 shots in regulation, with only three of those in the third period. But the final one found a way into the goal as newcomer Brad Richards scored for New York with 2:15 left to force extra time.
