Penguins 5, Flames 3

Evgeni Malkin had one of four second-period goals for the Pittsburgh Penguins in a 5-3 triumph over Calgary on Saturday, spoiling the Flames' home opener.

Malkin's power-play tally 13:04 into the frame capped a wild stretch that saw the Penguins score four times in a 12-minute span to erase a 1-0 deficit.

Matt Niskanen and Jordan Staal led the way with a goal and an assist apiece for Pittsburgh, which has opened the season with consecutive victories over Vancouver and Calgary.

Tyler Kennedy and Craig Adams had the other Penguins goals, while Marc-Andre Fleury stopped 17 shots to preserve the win.

Curtis Glencross had a first-period goal while Rene Bourque and Olli Jokinen added third-period markers to move the Flames to within 4-3. Staal put things out of reach with an empty-netter in the final moments.

Miikka Kiprusoff made 32 saves but was foiled in his attempt to equal Mike Vernon's franchise record for victories.
