Flames 4, Canadiens 1
The Calgary Flames scored three times in a 7 1/2-minute span of the first period to lead Miikka Kiprusoff to a historic victory, cruising past the host Montreal Canadiens 4-1 Thursday.
Kiprusoff turned aside 35 shots to become the Flames' all-time leader in victories with 263, one more than Mike Vernon.
He was aided by a torrid first period in which the Flames erased an early deficit with a pair of power-play goals. Rene Bourque tied the game 7:15 into the opening period, snapping a shot from the right faceoff circle past the glove of Montreal netminder Carey Price.
Niklas Hagman gave the Flames the lead for good just over four minutes later, corraling a centering pass from Olli Jokinen and burying a wrist shot into the top corner.
David Moss completed the barrage at 14:54, slipping an Alex Tanguay pass between Price's legs after splitting the Montreal defense.
Bourque's second of the game wrapped up the scoring late in the second period, as the bruising winger banged home a rebound of a Matt Stajan shot from in close.
Andrei Kostitsyn opened the scoring less than two minutes into the contest, slapping home a rebound on a Max Pacioretty shot that bounced off the end boards.
Price made 17 saves in defeat as he was denied his 100th career regular-season win.
