Captain Shane Doan scored for the third straight game and 13 different Phoenix players recorded at least one point as the Coyotes collected their first win of the season with a 5-2 road triumph over the Nashville Predators on Thursday.
Defenseman David Schlemko, Ray Whitney and Lauri Korpikoski netted their first goals of the season in a 6:45-span in the first period for Phoenix, which registered its first even-strength goals of the season. Prior to Thursday's contest, the Coyotes scored all four of their goals on the power play.
Mikkel Boedker also scored an even-strength goal midway through the second to stake Jason LaBarbera to a 4-0 advantage. The netminder, who wore a mask paying tribute to former NFL star turned war hero Pat Tillman, turned aside 23 shots in his season debut.
Defenseman Ryan Suter netted a shorthanded goal and David Legwand set up a pair of goals to increase his point total to an NHL-leading seven on the young season. Colin Wilson also scored midway through the third period, but Nashville saw its string of home-opening wins end at four.
Vezina Trophy finalist Pekka Rinne stopped 26 shots, but fell to 4-2-1 at home in his career against the Coyotes.
