Ducks 1, Sharks 0
Maxime Macenauer scored his first career goal with 6:01 remaining in the first period and Jonas Hiller made 31 saves as the Anaheim Ducks posted a 1-0 victory over the San Jose Sharks in their home opener on Friday.
Enforcer George Parros and Brandon McMillan each had an assist for Anaheim, which has scored just once in each of its three games this season and is 0-for-13 on the power play this season.
While the Sharks were able to shut down reigning Hart Trophy winner Corey Perry and the rest of Anaheim's top unit, the Ducks' fourth line struck for the only goal of the game. Parros made a nifty pass from behind the net to Macenauer, who chipped the puck inside the left post from the doorstep.
Hiller made the tally stand, turning aside 11 shots in both the first and third periods while stopping nine in the second for his 12th career shutout. The Swiss netminder improved to 5-8 lifetime against San Jose.
Thomas Greiss made 22 saves for the Sharks, who have lost six straight road games dating back to last season.
