Ducks 3, Sharks 2

Teemu Selanne scored a pair of goals and Dan Ellis made 41 saves in his first start of the season as the Anaheim Ducks recorded a 3-2 victory over the host San Jose Sharks on Monday.

Corey Perry also scored and Saku Koivu notched two assists for the Ducks, who topped the Sharks for the second time in four nights.

Selanne netted goals less than five minutes apart in the first period to give Anaheim a 2-0 lead.

The 41-year old converted a cross-crease pass from fellow Finn Koivu at 9:42 for his first goal of the season. It was Selanne's 238th career power-play tally, tying him with Brendan Shanahan for fifth on the all-time list.

Selanne doubled the advantage by burying a rebound in front with 5:27 remaining in the first. He has 639 career goals, one behind Dave Andreychuk for 13th all-time.

San Jose halved the deficit at 6:39 of the second as Marc-Edouard Vlasic was credited with a goal after Anaheim's Bobby Ryan inadvertently kicked the puck past Ellis. Perry restored the two-goal lead early in the third, but Brent Burns beat Ellis with a one-timer during a 5-on-3 advantage midway through the session to cut the Sharks' deficit to 3-2.

Antti Niemi stopped 19 shots in his season debut for San Jose, which had won six of its previous seven home meetings with Anaheim. Niemi had been out of action since having a cyst near his knee removed during the summer.
