Kings 5, Blues 0
Jonathan Quick made 27 saves while Simon Gagne scored two goals and set up another as the Los Angeles Kings cruised to a 5-0 triumph over the St. Louis Blues in their home opener on Tuesday.
Quick turned aside five shots in the first period, 13 in the second and nine in the third en route to his 15th career shutout. The blanking was Los Angeles' first against St. Louis at home since Rogie Vachon accomplished the feat on Feb. 22, 1977.
The 25-year old Quick improved to 2-7-1 in 10 career meetings with the Blues.
Anze Kopitar, captain Dustin Brown and Jarret Stoll each had a tally and an assist for Los Angeles, which halted a seven-game losing streak against St. Louis.
Gagne opened and closed the scoring, giving Quick all the offensive support he needed at 7:20 of the first period and beating Brian Elliott 6 1/2 minutes into the third after getting behind the defense and corraling a flip pass from Kopitar.
Elliott came on to replace Jaroslav Halak, who was pulled after yielding Kopitar's goal 23 seconds into the third. Halak made just 14 saves in losing to the Kings for the first time in six career decisions.
