Blues 4, Flyers 2
Defenseman Carlo Colaiacovo collected a goal and an assist and Brian Elliott turned aside 34 shots as the St. Louis Blues handed the Philadelphia Flyers their second straight regulation setback with a 4-2 road triumph on Saturday.
Matt D'Agostini scored for the second straight night and defenseman Kent Huskins matched last season's total with his second goal of the campaign for St. Louis, which saw captain David Backes exit the game with an upper body injury. Backes was on the receiving end of a crushing hit from Flyers captain Chris Pronger during the second period.
Backes, who led the club with 31 goals last season, did not return.
Playing in his second game since returning from a concussion, Colaiacovo picked up the primary assist as T.J. Oshie gave the Blues a 2-0 lead midway through the first period.
Colaiacovo then gave St. Louis a 3-1 advantage with 4:24 remaining in the second after cleaning up a loose puck and wristing it past Ilya Bryzgalov for his first of the season.
Starting on consecutive nights in place of the struggling Jaroslav Halak, Elliott yielded the respective second goals of the season by Danny Briere and defenseman Matt Carle before slamming the door.
D'Agostini regained the two-goal advantage with a power-play goal just 66 seconds after Carle's marker.
Bryzgalov finished with 21 saves for Philadelphia, which suffered its second straight regulation loss after starting the season with a 4-0-1 mark.
