Canucks 7, Capitals 4

Chris Higgins, Maxim Lapierre and Alexander Edler had two goals apiece as the Vancouver Canucks outgunned the visiting Washington Capitals 7-4 Saturday night.

Following a wild 40 minutes that saw the teams combine for eight goals, Vancouver used a power play to take the lead at 6:18 of the third. Following a mad scramble in front of the Washington goal, the puck popped out to Henrik Sedin and he tapped it into an open net.

Higgins' second of the game on a nifty feed from Jannik Hansen 34 seconds later padded the lead. Lapierre put the game out of reach with his second of the night, a wrist shot that beat Capitals netminder Michal Neuvirth between the pads at 10:25.

Thirteen different Vancouver players had points as the Canucks bounced back from a lackluster showing in a 3-0 loss to St. Louis on Wednesday.

Alexander Ovechkin had a pair of goals for the Capitals, who have lost two straight following a season-opening seven-game winning streak. Mike Knuble added a second-period penalty-shot goal and Marcus Johansson also scored in defeat.
