Oilers 4, Blues 2
Ryan Smyth scored a pair of goals and rookie Ryan Nugent-Hopkins set up tallies by Shawn Horcoff and Jordan Eberle as the Edmonton Oilers continued their red-hot start with a 4-2 win over the St. Louis Blues on Sunday night.
Smyth put the Oilers ahead for good at the 7 1/2-minute mark of the second period and added his fifth of the season - and third in the past two games - just under 10 minutes later as Edmonton improved to 7-2-2. The Oilers didn't win their seventh game last season until Nov. 29.
Following Smyth's go-ahead goal, the Oilers' kid line struck yet again. Nugent-Hopkins fed Taylor Hall, who slapped a one-time pass that deflected off the skate of Eberle and past Blues netminder Jaroslav Halak.
Nikolai Khabibulin was sensational yet again, turning aside 28 shots to remain unbeaten in regulation on the campaign (5-0-2). He has yet to allow more than two goals in a game this season.
David Backes and Chris Stewart countered for St. Louis, which has dropped two straight following a three-game winning streak. Halak made 26 saves in defeat.
