Rangers 5, Sharks 2
Captain Ryan Callahan scored twice in just over a five-minute span during the second period as the New York Rangers denied the San Jose Sharks a perfect six-game road trip with a 5-2 triumph on Monday at Madison Square Garden.
With the contest tied at 2-2, Callahan converted Erik Christensen's goal-mouth pass and banged it home with six minutes remaining in the second period. Just 2:42 later, Artem Anisimov accepted Christensen's feed and backhanded a shot past Antti Niemi before Callahan cleaned up a loose puck with 48 seconds remaining for his fourth goal in as many games.
Defenseman Ryan McDonagh opened the scoring and Derek Stepan and Anisimov netted their respective first goals of the season for New York, which posted its first home ice win of the campaign.
The offensive surge was more than enough for Martin Biron, who turned aside 24 shots in his second start of the season.
Joe Pavelski scored for the sixth time in as many games and set up Logan Couture for his 12th point on the road trip.
Niemi finished with 26 saves for San Jose, which capped the 13-day road trip with a 5-1-0 mark.
