Bruins 5, Senators 3
Johnny Boychuk and Daniel Paille scored 37 seconds apart in the third period as the host Boston Bruins prevailed 5-3 over Ottawa on Tuesday, ending the Senators' six-game winning streak.
With the score tied and Ottawa looking for more late heroics, the Bruins put the game out of reach at the seven-minute mark of the third period. After Boychuk put Boston back in front on a low screen shot from the point, Shawn Thornton sent a chip pass to a streaking Paille, who snapped a shot that squeezed beneath the arm of Senators goaltender Craig Anderson.
Milan Lucic, Patrice Bergeron and Chris Kelly had the other goals for the Bruins, who halted a three-game losing skid.
Nick Foligno, Stephane Da Costa and Jared Cowen, with his first career NHL goal, answered for the Senators.
Trailing 2-1 after 20 minutes, the Bruins drew even 4:21 into the second period. Bergeron gathered up a deft pass from Tyler Seguin and fired it past Anderson from point-blank range.
Boston seized its first lead with two minutes remaining, as Kelly's rocket from above the circles found the top right corner past Anderson.
Ottawa knotted the score at the five-minute mark of the third period as Cowen's point shot deflected off the stick of Bruins blueliner Dennis Seidenberg and skipped past Boston goaltender Tim Thomas.
