Flames 4, Red Wings 1
Jarome Iginla snapped a four-game goalless drought with a pair of tallies and added an assist as the visiting Calgary Flames sent the Detroit Red Wings to a sixth straight loss, 4-1, on Thursday.
Lee Stempniak scored his second goal and Miikka Kiprusoff made 28 saves for the Flames, who have won three of four.
Iginla had been suffering through a slow start, coming into Thursday with only four points - two goals - in Calgary’s first 10 games. He broke out of the drought on the power play at the 4:37 mark of the second period, taking a feed from Curtis Glencross and slapping a one-timer past Jimmy Howard from the left face-off circle to make it 2-0.
The Red Wings would cut it to 2-1 on Danny Cleary’s first goal less than four minutes later but Iginla struck again in the third.
Exactly like his first tally, the Flames’ captain dropped down to one knee in the left face-off circle and buried a slap shot past Howard off another feed from Glencross.
Iginla picked up his third assist on Olli Jokinen’s empty-net goal late in the game.
Detroit has totaled six goals during its losing streak.
