Sharks 4, Penguins 3 (SO)

Ryane Clowe scored the only goal of the shootout and Thomas Greiss was brilliant in relief of Antti Niemi as the San Jose Sharks rallied for a 4-3 victory over the visiting Pittsburgh Penguins on Thursday.

After San Jose erased a two-goal deficit in the third period, Clowe beat Marc-Andre Fleury to the stick side in the third round of the shootout to give the Sharks the edge. Greiss, who made 29 saves after replacing Niemi early in the contest, poked the puck away from Pascal Dupuis on Pittsburgh's final attempt to seal the win.

Clowe, Patrick Marleau and Jamie McGinn scored in regulation for San Jose, which began its six-game homestand with its sixth win in seven contests.

Pittsburgh scored twice in the first 2:04 of the game to chase Niemi, who finished with four saves. Deryk Engelland scored 24 seconds into the contest and Evgeni Malkin netted the first of his two goals 1:40 later.

The Penguins carried a 3-1 lead into the third as Marleau and Malkin traded second-period tallies. But Clowe and McGinn less than six minutes apart to forge a tie.

Malkin added an assist and Fleury stopped 34 shots for Pittsburgh, which fell to 0-8-2 in its last 10 visits to San Jose. The Penguins are just 3-13-2 in their last 18 overall meetings with the Sharks.
