Blues 3, Canucks 2

David Backes scored to snap a tie nearly six minutes into the third period and Brian Elliott turned aside 28 shots as the St. Louis Blues skated to a 3-2 home triumph over the Vancouver Canucks on Friday.

T.J. Oshie scored twice and set up Backes' game-winner for St. Louis, which defeated Vancouver for the second time in nine days. The Blues posted a 3-0 road triumph over the Canucks on Oct. 26.

With the game tied at 2-2, Backes cleaned up a rebound of his own shot and wristed the loose puck past Roberto Luongo for his second goal in as many games and fourth of the season.

St. Louis Cardinals pitcher Chris Carpenter and World Series MVP David Freese participated in the ceremonial puck drop. Former manager Tony La Russa was also in attendance.

After Alex Burrows opened the scoring by cleaning up his own rebound, Oshie leveled the contest 97 seconds later after backhanding the puck past Luongo.

Oshie then gave St. Louis a 2-1 lead at 1:28 of the second period after cleaning up the rebound of Backes' shot and beating Luongo for his third goal of the season.

Ryan Kesler netted a power-play goal and Luongo finished with 25 saves for Vancouver, which is 1-2-0 on its current six-game road trip.
