Sabres 3, Senators 2 (SO)

Derek Roy scored a second-period goal and had the deciding tally in the sixth round of the shootout as the visiting Buffalo Sabres defeated the Ottawa Senators 3-2 on Saturday.

The first two players for each team each converted in the shootout, but Roy was the only one of the next eight to score as the Sabres (8-5) won for the second straight night.

It was the first loss in the shootout in four tries this season for Ottawa (7-7-1), which has lost three straight overall.

Backup Jhonas Enroth got the surprise start in goal for Buffalo in place of a healthy Ryan Miller. After winning his third straight game to start the season Friday against Calgary, he had 25 saves before stopping four in the shootout.

Milan Michalek slipped a backhand under Enroth’s arm at 15:41 of the first period for his ninth goal to give Ottawa a 1-0 lead. Goalie Craig Anderson earned one of the assists, the eighth of his career.

Roy scored his first goal in 10 games to tie it 1-1, redirecting a Ville Leino shot at 10:39 of the second. It was Leino’s first point in seven games.

Jordan Leopold gave the Sabres the lead on a rebound 2:16 later, but Erik Condra scored his first of the season on a breakaway to tie it at 14:13.
