Stars 5, Hurricanes 2
Kari Lehtonen made 30 saves to secure his 10th win of the season and Jamie Benn scored a pair of goals as the Dallas Stars dominated the host Carolina Hurricanes with a 5-2 triumph on Sunday afternoon.
Michael Ryder recorded a goal and two assists and Loui Eriksson had three helpers for the Stars, who have won three straight.
After getting bailed out by his offense in a 7-6 overtime victory against Colorado on Friday, Lehtonen returned to the form that had carried Dallas through the first month. The Finn made 14 saves in the third period alone and helped kill off seven of nine penalties.
The Stars had little trouble solving Cam Ward, as Eric Nystrom, defenseman Stephane Robidas and Benn each tallied in the first period. Ryder’s goal at the 3:48 mark of the second knocked Ward out of the contest.
The All-Star netminder allowed four goals on just 14 shots.
Brian Boucher was better, but Benn still managed to beat him with a shorthanded tally near the end of the second period to make it 5-1.
The Hurricanes have allowed five goals in three of their last four games.
