Rangers 3, Jets 0

Martin Biron made 23 saves in his first shutout of the season as the New York Rangers blanked the visiting Winnipeg Jets 3-0 on Sunday.

Derek Stepan recorded a goal and an assist and Marian Gaborik tallied twice for the Rangers, who have won four straight.

Biron, who beat the Jets in a spot start last month, got plenty of help from a defense that did not allow more than nine shots in any period.

Sunday marks the 27th shutout of Biron’s career and the first since he was with the New York Islanders in 2009-10.

Stepan snapped the scoreless tie at the 10:01 mark of the second period. After Andrew Ladd was called for a high-sticking penalty, New York got on the power play and worked it around to Stepan, who wristed a shot past Ondrej Pavelec from the left side.

Gaborik provided some breathing room with his sixth tally at the 8:31 mark in the third and added an empty-net goal with two seconds remaining.

Pavelec made 24 saves for Winnipeg, which had its three-game points streak come to an end.
